Genus Loci
The ancient Greeks spoke of genus loci or the spirit of a place. While we recognize that each place has its own signature atmosphere we seldom take the time to analyze why. By understanding the spirit of a place, we learn to enhance our environments. As where we are feels better, so do we. As we feel more comfortable, our lives become easier. The places pictured to the right each have a majority of energy of one element. Humans feel most comfortable when all five of these elements are balanced. To correctly balance the energies of a place we must deal with both the invisible (wind) and the elusive (water). To learn more about the energy and feelings in our environments we look to the study of feng shui (wind/water). The feng shui that I implement and teach has nothing to do with the superstition of three-legged frogs or curly bamboo. There are those who promote that sort of feng shui and I mean them no disrespect. My research, however, has led me to understand that the study of environmental energy is more in the realm of quantum physics than the realms of superstition or religion. All things in our universe are made of energy. The energy in our environments is just as real as the energy that lights up our homes. We can't see it or hold that energy, yet we don't have to believe in it for the lights to come on. Living among balanced environmental energies makes all the difference. I invite you to explore and experiment for yourself! Modern man will never find peace until he comes |
